Cardano (ADA): ETF Eligibility Hits August 9
Cardano completes six months of CME futures trading on August 9, 2026, which is the threshold that makes ADA eligible for the SEC's generic listing standards and a 75-day review clock instead of the 240-day process Bitcoin sat through. Grayscale already has a filing in, under the working ticker GADA. This could create a large upside for ADA as we head into the end of summer 2026 as a hot coin to keep an eye on.
What could go wrong
There is no SEC determination that ADA is a commodity. The agency alleged in 2023-era litigation that Cardano was a security, then dismissed the related cases. A dismissal is not a ruling. Nothing on the record converts ADA into a settled non-security, and eligibility under the generic standards does not create one.
Eligibility is a duration test, not a depth test. The six-month clock only asks whether a regulated futures contract has existed. It does not ask whether that contract carries meaningful volume or open interest. A thin CME contract clears August 9 and still gives an exchange a reason to hesitate.
The 75-day clock runs to a decision, not to a launch. If a filing lands on August 9, the outer deadline is October 23, 2026. A decision on October 23 can be a denial.
Price has already moved on this. ADA is up 11.6% over 30 days and 78.6% over one year while Bitcoin is up 0.4% and 44.5% on the same windows. Some portion of the catalyst is in the price before the date arrives.
What is genuinely clean here: supply. Cardano's vesting schedule ended in 2017. There are no scheduled unlocks in the next 90 days and no treasury cliff waiting to hit the bid. 37.3 billion of a 45 billion max supply circulates. That is unusual for a name carrying a dated catalyst, and it is the reason this pick outranked ENA, which has 171.88 million tokens unlocking on August 5.

The thesis, and what would kill it
The generic listing standards changed the shape of this trade. Under the old regime an issuer filed a bespoke 19b-4 and waited up to 240 days while the SEC ran out the clock in increments. Under the new framework, an asset with six months of regulated futures history moves through an exchange-side process capped at roughly 75 days. Cardano crosses that line on August 9.

Where this sits in the record
Cardano is not new to this list. ADA was first called on December 3, 2017 at $0.14 β a position that ran to $3.09 in September 2021, an ATH return of roughly 2,100% from that call. This is the second ADA entry, opened at a different price on a different thesis, and it is tracked separately.
From the August 4, 2026 call price of $0.1672, a return to the prior $3.09 high would be +1,748%. State that honestly: ADA's all-time high was set in 2021, so that figure is headroom to a prior peak, not a gain already realised. It requires ADA to reclaim a level it has not seen in five years.
The full nine-year list β 47 picks before this one, average ATH return from call date of roughly +1,579% β is on the CryptoBull Hot Coins Tracker, with live prices and every losing call left in.
